సుందరకాండ.
అథ పంచషష్టితమస్సర్గః||

తతః ప్రస్రవణం శైలం తే గత్వా చిత్రకాననమ్|
ప్రణమ్య శిరసా రామం లక్ష్మణం చ మహాబలమ్||1||
యువరాజం పురస్కృత్య సుగ్రీవ మభివాద్య చ|
ప్రవృత్తి మథ సీతాయాః ప్రవక్తుముపచక్రమే||2||

స|| తతః చిత్రకాననం ప్రస్రవణం శైలం గత్వా శిరసా మహాబలం రామం లక్ష్మణం చ ప్రణమ్య యువరాజం పురస్కృత్య సుగ్రీవం అభివాద్య చ సీతాయాః ప్రవృత్తిం ప్రవక్తుం ఉపచక్రమే ||

Then having arrived at the Prasravana mountain with wonderful forests, offering salutations to Rama Lakshmana and Sugriva , keeping the prince ( Angada) in the front , they began telling the story of Sita.

రావణాంతః పురే రోధం రాక్షసీభిశ్చ తర్జనమ్|
రామే సమనురాగం చ యశ్చాయం సమయః కృతః||3||
ఏతదాఖ్యాంతి తే సర్వే హరయో రామసన్నిధౌ|

స|| తే సర్వే హరయోః రావణాంతః పురే రోధం రాక్షసీభిః చ తర్జనమ్ రామే సమనురాగం చ యత్ అయం సమయః కృతః రామ సన్నిధౌ ఏతత్ ఆఖ్యాన్తి ||

The Vanaras told about the detention in Ravana's harem, the threats by the Rakshasis, the devotion to Rama, the time limit , all of that in the presence of Rama.

వైదేహీమక్షతాం శ్రుత్వా రామస్తూత్తరమబ్రవీత్||4||
క్వ సీతా వర్తతే దేవీ కథం చ మయి వర్తతే|
ఏతన్మే సర్వ మాఖ్యాతం వైదేహీం ప్రతి వానరాః||5||

స||వైదేహీం అక్షతాం శ్రుత్వా రామస్తు ఉత్తరం అబ్రవీత్|| సీతా క్వ వర్తతే | దేవీ మయి కథం వర్తతే | వైదేహీం ప్రతి ఏతత్ సర్వం వానరాః ఆఖ్యాతం||

Hearing that Vaidehi is not harmed Rama too asked .' How is Sita? How is she towards me? Oh Vanaras tell me everything about Sita.'

రామస్య గదితం శ్రుత్వా హరయో రామసన్నిధౌ|
చోదయంతి హనూమంతం సీతావృత్తాంత కోవిదమ్||6||
శ్రుత్వా తు వచనం తేషాం హనుమాన్ మారుతాత్మజః|
ప్రణమ్య శిరసా దేవ్యై సీతాయై తాం దిశం ప్రతి||7||
ఉవాచ వాక్యం వాక్యజ్ఞః సీతాయా దర్శనం యథా|

స|| హరయః రామస్య గదితం శ్రుత్వా సీతావృత్తాంతకోవిదం హనుమంతం రామసన్నిధౌ చోదయన్తి||హనుమాన్ మారుతాత్మజః తేషాం వచనం శ్రుత్వా దేవ్యై సీతాయై తాం దిశాం ప్రతి శిరసా ప్రణమ్య యథా సీతాయాః దర్శనం వాక్యజ్ఞః వాక్యం ఉవాచ||

The Vanaras having heard what was said by Rama, in the presence of Rama request Hanuman who knows everything about Sita. Hanuman the son of wind god who is wise in speech, hearing their words, bowing his head in the direction of divine Sita, spoke these words.

సముద్రం లంఘయిత్వాఽహం శతయోజనమాయతమ్||8||
అగచ్ఛం జానకీం సీతాం మార్గమాణో దిదృక్షయా|
తత్ర లంకేతి నగరీ రావణస్య దురాత్మనః||9||
దక్షిణస్య సముద్రస్య తీరే వసతి దక్షిణే |

స|| అహం శతయోజనం ఆయతం సముద్రం లంఘయిత్వా జానకీం సీతాం దిదృక్షయా మార్గమాణః ఆగచ్ఛం ||తత్ర సముద్రస్య దక్షిణస్య తీరే లంకా ఇతి రావణస్య నగరీ తత్ర దురాత్మన్ః వసతి||

' Having crossed hundred Yojana wide ocean with the intention of seeing Sita, I arrived ( on the other shore). There on the southern shores of the sea is the Ravana's city by name Lanka . There the evil minded one lives.

తత్ర దృష్టా మయా సీతా రావణాంతః పురే సతీ||10||
సన్న్యస్య త్వయి జీవంతీ రామా రామమనోరథమ్|
దృష్టా మే రాక్షసీ మధ్యే తర్జ్యమానా ముహుర్ముహుః||11||
రాక్షసీభిర్విరూపాభీ రక్షితా ప్రమదావనే|

స|| రామా తత్ర రావణాంతః పురే సతీ త్వయి మనోరథం సన్న్యస్యజీవన్తీ రామ సీతా మయా దృష్టా||ప్రమదావనే విరూపాభిః రాక్షసీభిః రక్షితా ముహుర్ముహుః తర్జ్యమానా (సీతా) మే రాక్షసీ మధ్యే దృష్టా ||

Oh Rama ! There in the harem of Ravana , saw Sita giving up all desires living with her mind fixed in you. Saw her surrounded by Rakshasis , in the beautiful garden protected by ugly looking Rakshasis, being threatened again and again.

దుఃఖమాసాద్యతే దేవీ తథాఽదుఃఖోచితా సతీ||12||
రావణాంతః పురే రుద్ధా రాక్షసీభిః సురక్షితా|
ఏకవేణీధరా దీనా త్వయి చింతాపరాయణా||13||
అథశ్శయా వివర్ణాంగీ పద్మినీవ హిమాగమే|
రావణాద్వినివృత్తార్థా మర్తవ్య కృతనిశ్చయా||14||
దేవీ కథంచిత్ కాకుత్‍స్థ త్వన్మనా మార్గితా మయా|

స|| తథా దుఃఖోచితా దేవీ దుఃఖం ఆసాద్యతే రావణాంతః పురే రుద్ధా రాక్షసీభిః సతీ (మయా కథంచిత్ మార్గితా)| ఏకవేణీ ధరా త్వయి చిన్తాపరాయనా దీనా అథః శయ్యా హిమాగమే పద్మినీం ఇవ వివర్ణాంగీ (మయా సతీ కథంచిత్ మార్గితా)|| రావణాత్ వినివృత్తార్థా మర్తవ్య కృతనిశ్చయా కాకుత్‍స్థ త్వన్మనాః దేవీ కథంచిత్ మయా మార్గితా||

The divine lady with her mind filled with grief, not deserving to experience such sorrow, detained in the Ravana's harem was some how found by me. Wearing her hair in one plait, absorbed in your thoughts, piteous, sleeping on the ground , limbs turned pale like the lotus in the winter, Sita was averse to Ravana and is determined to give up her life. She was having Rama alone in her mind.

ఇక్ష్వాకు వంశ విఖ్యాతిం శనైః కీర్తయతానఘా||15||
స మయా నరశార్దూల విశ్వాసముపపాదితా|
తతః సంభాషితా దేవీ సర్వమర్థం చ దర్శితా||16||
రామసుగ్రీవసఖ్యం చ శ్రుత్వా ప్రీతిముపాగతా|
నియతస్సముదాచారో భక్తిశ్చాస్యాస్తథా త్వయి||17||

స|| అనఘ నరశార్దూల ఇక్ష్వాకువంశ విఖ్యాతిం శనైః కీర్తయతా మయా సా విశ్వాసం ఉపపాదితా||తతః దేవీ సంభాషితా సర్వం అర్థం దర్శితా రామసుగ్రీవ సఖ్యం చ| అస్యాః సముదాచారః నియతః తథా త్వయి భక్తిశ్చ శ్రుత్వా ప్రీతిం ఉపాగతా ||

' Oh Sinless one! Softly singing the praises of the line of Ikshvakus I inspired her confidence. Then the divine lady spoke. Presented everything to her including the friendship of Rama and Sugriva. Hearing that virtuous Sita whose devotion is fixed in you became delighted '.

ఏవం మయా మహాభాగా దృష్టా జనక నందినీ|
ఉగ్రేణ తపసా యుక్తా త్వద్భక్త్యా పురుషర్షభ||18||

స|| పురుషర్షభ ఉగ్రేణ తపసా త్వత్ భక్త్యా యుక్తా మహాభాగా జనకనందినీ మయా ఏవం దృష్టా||

' Oh Bull among men ! Thus richly endowed with austerities, imbued with devotion to you , the delight of Janaka was seen by me'.

అభిజ్ఞానం చ మే దత్తం యథావృత్తం తవాంతికే|
చిత్రకూటే మహాప్రాజ్ఞ వాయసం ప్రతి రాఘవ||19||
విజ్ఞాప్యశ్చ నరవ్యాఘ్రో రామో వాయుసుత త్వయా|
అఖిలేనేహ యద్దృష్టమితి మాం ఆహ జానకీ||20||

స|| మహాప్రాజ్ఞ చిత్రకూటే తవ అన్తికే వాయసం ప్రతి యథా వృత్తం అభిజ్ఞానం మే దత్తం||వాయుసుత నరవ్యాఘ్రః రామః త్వయా ఇహ యత్ దృష్టం అఖిలేన విజ్ఞ్యాప్యః ఇతి జానకీ మామ్ ఆహ||

'Oh Wise one ! She gave me the story of the crow in the Chitrakuta as a token of your recognition. Janaki told me " oh Son of wind god ! Rama the tiger among men shall be told all that you have seen here."

అయం చాస్మై ప్రదాతవ్యో యత్నాత్ సుపరిరక్షితః|
బ్రువతా వచనా న్యేవం సుగ్రీవ స్యోపశృణ్వతః||21||

స|| సుగ్రీవస్య ఉపశ్రుణ్వతః ఏవం వచనాని బ్రువతా| యత్నాత్ సుపరిరక్షితః అయం చ ప్రదాతవ్యః||

'These words shall be told within the hearing of Sugriva. Present this that has been protected by me'.

ఏష చూడామణిః శ్రీమాన్ మయా సుపరిరక్షితః|
మనశ్శిలాయాః తిలకో గండపార్శ్వే నివేశితః||22||
త్వయా ప్రణష్టే తిలకేతం కిల స్మర్తు మర్హసి|
ఏష నిర్యాతితః శ్రీమాన్ మయా తే వారిసంభవః||23||
ఏతం దృష్ట్వా ప్రమోదిష్యే వ్యసనే త్వా మివానఘ|

స|| శ్రీమాన్ ఏషః చూడామణిః మయా సుపరిరక్షితః | తిలకే ప్రణష్ఠే త్వయా మనస్సిలాయాః తిలకః గణ్డపార్శ్వే నివేసితః కిల | తం స్మర్తుం అర్హసి||అనఘ దివ్యః నిర్యాతితః శ్రీమాన్ వారిసంభవః వ్యసనే ఏతం మయా దృష్ట్వా త్వాం ఇవ ప్రహృష్యామి||

' This auspicious Chudamani was preserved by me carefully. Remind him of the decorative red mark he painted with stone pigment on my forehead when the tilak mark was erased . It is appropriate to remind him of this. Oh Sinless one! the auspicious one sent to you , born in ocean was my solace. Seeing the same I was feeling happy as if I saw you.'

" ఈ చూడామని నా చేత పరిరక్షింపబడెను. నా తిలకము చెరిగిపోయినప్పుడు మణిశిలను అరగదీసి చెక్కిలి మీద రాశిన వాడవు. అది జ్ఞాపకము చేసికొనగలవు. ఓ అనఘా ఈ దివ్యమైన జలనిధిలో జన్మించిన చూడామణిని పంపిస్తున్నాను.నిజానికి దీనిని చూచి నిన్ను చూచినట్లే సంతోషపడుచున్నదానను"

జీవితం ధారయిష్యామి మాసం దశరథాత్మజ||24|
ఊర్ధ్వం మాసాన్న జీవేయం రక్షసాం వశమాగతా|
ఇతి మామబ్రవీత్ సీతా కృశాంగీ ధర్మచారిణీ||25||
రావణాంతః పురే రుద్ధా మృగీ వోత్ఫుల్లలోచనా|

స|| దశరథాత్మజ జీవితం మాసం ధారయిష్యామి | రక్షసాం వశం ఆగతా మాసాత్ ఊర్ధ్వం న జీవేయం ||కృశాంగీ ధర్మచారిణీ రావణాంతః పురే రుద్ధా మృగీవ ఉత్ఫుల్లలోచనా సీతా ఇతి మామ్ అబ్రవీత్||

'Oh Son of Dasaratha ! I will be living for one month. Coming under their control I will not live beyond a month'. The lady with emaciated limbs, following virtuous life, detained in the harem of Ravana , eyes wide open like a deer in fear, she said this to me.

ఏత దేవ మయాఽఽఖ్యాతం సర్వం రాఘవ యద్యథా||26||
సర్వథా సాగరజలేసంతారః ప్రవిధీయతామ్||27||

స|| రాఘవ యత్ యథా ఏతత్ సర్వం ఏవ మయా ఖ్యాతం| సర్వథా సాగరజలే సన్తారః ప్రవిధీయతామ్||

' Oh Rama I have told everything that happened. By all means we have to pay attention to crossing the ocean'.

తౌ జాతాశ్వాసౌ రాజపుత్రౌ విదిత్వా
తచ్చాభిజ్ఞానం రాఘవాయప్రదాయ|
దేవ్యా చాఖ్యాతం సర్వమేవానుపూర్వ్యా
ద్వాచా సంపూర్ణం వాయుపుత్త్రః శశంస||28||

స|| వాయుపుత్రః తౌ రాజపుత్త్రౌ జాతాశ్వాసౌ విదిత్వా తత అభిజ్ఞానం ప్రదాయ దేవ్యా అఖ్యాతం సర్వం ఏవ సంపూర్ణం ఆనుపూర్యాత్ వాచా శశంస||

Realizing that the two princes are sighing in relief , he gave the token , after having told everything in full in an orderly manner.

ఇత్యార్షే శ్రీమద్రామాయణే ఆదికావ్యే వాల్మీకీయే
చతుర్వింశత్ సహస్రికాయాం సంహితాయామ్
శ్రీమత్సుందరకాండే పంచషష్టితమస్సర్గః||

Thus ends the Sarga sixty five of Sundarakanda in Ramayana the first poem ever composed in Sanskrit by the first poet sage Valmiki
